Beyonce wasn't built in a day

So going freelance full time and putting all my energy and time into my own 'brand' was probably one of the scariest moments of my life to date and every now and again - I need to remind myself that it is worth it and the reasons I started. So I've put together a small list of some of the hints and tips i've heard, read or seen recently that have kept me working at my game. I hope these help you as much as they have helped me!

1 - You can not please everyone and you MUST be comfortable with that.

Trying to make everyone happy, please everyone and making everyone 'like you' is draining and effective. Start by concentrating on yourself and in time the rest will follow.

2 - Build up that tough skin.

I think this is probably one of the most important life lessons. I can be the most hyper-sensitive person, I used to think when I was a teenager that I really didn't care what people thought because I knew myself that I was a good person with a hardworking mindset but, with life and all that is thrown at you, somewhere along the way to my twenties I lost that confidence, that fight that I had in me. But... slowly I'm beginning to get this back. I recently watched an Instagram Story of Will Smith taking about failure, how failure is good and how in order to be successful you have to embrace failure. I don't think that before now I've ever truly embraced failure. But believe me it can sometimes be the best thing to happen to you and your life. Build your self from failure, learn from you're mistakes and go again.

 3 - Be open minded.

Don't be judgemental and always have an open mind. Leaving yourself open to new things and new people give you new invaluable access to fresh ideas, support and connections.

4 - Manage your emotions

This is one I thought came with time as you go through different experiences in life, something I thought was much harder for us women with our hormones than it was for our fellow male colleagues. However experience has come to prove to me that this is all wrong. Going back to confidence and self love, I have also come to realise that I am cable of managing my emotions in order for me to move forward with work. I have come to recognise this as one of my best abilities I have grown to embrace it and develop it further.

5 - Sleep

No matter how many hours you think you need to work to be successful, not matter how busy you are, you need sleep. Feeling refreshed and fully charged will enable you to work effectively and efficiently .

6 - Evaluation of your motivations

Eighty percent of the wealthy are "obsessed with pursuing goals," he writes. They refer to both daily and long-term goals regularly. Remind yourself or why you are doing what you are doing. 'Go hard or go home.' In order to remain successful and remain motivated - you MUST want it. Need it almost! If your reasons for doing something aren't important to you then your'll find it easy to stray away of the hard work that it takes in order to accomplish it.

7 - Don't become stuck to you desk

For me there is nothing less motivating than repetition. I need a change of scenery and fresh eyes. Whether its working from different settings or even just a walk at dinner. Keep moving and keep your momentum, this is what ignites your creativity.

8 - Read. Listen. Watch.

Don't feel guilty for taking time out to read, listen or even watch something of interest. Billionaire investment guru Warren Buffett reportedly once said that reading is the most important habit he’s picked up. Keeping yourself informed and constantly developing yourself it good for business.

9 - Remind yourself of priorities.

You work to have a life, not the other way around. Going back to your motivations. If you loose sight of why you're working so hard it is easy to run out of time for the things that really matter. Prioritise your days and weeks making sure you don't spread yourself too thin, but also get spend that essential time on the things you need to.

“Things don’t have to change the world to be important.”  - Steve Jobs.

10 - Learn to say no.

Choose your work - don't feel like you have to choose every single job - it will come. Going back to priorities as well. You have to be selfish in order to be selfless. If you can't look after yourself first you can't be any use to your work or your family, and sometimes in order to do this you have to sometimes say no. It's taken me a long time to get this and I still struggle now but I'm slowly getting there and it's paying off!
